Odd Socks Day is here again! This proud initiative of GROW Australia has been running for 7 years and it’s a fun day with a serious message.
Jot down Friday 9 October 2020 in your calendar and start planning an Odd Socks Day fundraiser. Odd Socks Day is designed to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of mental health issues. The stigma attached to mental ill-health is widely known, and at GROW we’re aiming to break through this barrier. We want to see everyone openly discuss mental health issues, just as you would with a physical injury or any other health issue.
Seeking help early, having open conversations and support from family, friends and work colleagues are all essential parts of helping people to belong and recover. It also helps to reduce the stigma mental ill-health can cause.
One in five Australians aged 16-85 experience mental ill-health in any year. It can impact anyone at any time. Wearing a pair of Odd Socks will assist in raising awareness and you’re on your way to starting the conversation. You can even host an Odd Socks Day fundraiser to help GROW continue providing peer-to-peer mental health support groups across Australia.
It’s really easy to get involved! Why not host an event at your workplace, your office, or with some friends – the only catch is you have to wear some odd socks! Visit our website for more information about the day, and how you can donate to this great cause.
We’d also love for you to take a photo, share and post it to social media. #OSD2020
