Cultural Safety at GROW

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

At GROW, we are dedicated to nurturing an inclusive and culturally rich environment. We understand the importance of appreciating and interacting with people from diverse cultures, including indigenous, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ groups. Adapting our behaviors and practices shapes how we meet the varied needs of our community.

Why Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging matter?

Diversity means recognizing and valuing differences in political beliefs, race, culture, sexual orientation, religion, class, and gender identity. A diverse workplace enriches us with unique perspectives, creating a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.

Inclusion ensures everyone feels involved, valued, and respected, regardless of their background. It grants equal access to opportunities, empowering individuals to highlight their unique talents.

Equity focuses on fairness, acknowledging that people come from different backgrounds with varying advantages. Equity measures, like affirmative recruitment and workplace adjustments, ensure equal participation for all.

Belonging is about feeling connected and at home. It’s the deepest form of engagement, ensuring everyone feels part of the GROW family.

  Implementing Diversity and Inclusion

At GROW, diversity and inclusion are brought to life through:

  • Celebrating Diverse Holidays and Important Dates: Recognizing significant events for indigenous, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ groups among our employees.
  • Leadership Communication: Recognising the importance of messaging and language from the CEO or Executive Team about diversity and inclusion.
  • GROW Programs: Delivering the GROW program to underrepresented groups, including indigenous, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Learning and Development Training for all staff: Mandatory training for staff and volunteers plus expanded opportunities to learn more about the communities we serve.
  • Cultural Safety Policy: Ensuring our policies prioritize diversity, equity,  and inclusion.

Fostering Cultural Safety

Cultural safety means respecting and understanding different cultures, defined by nationalities, religions, languages, and ethnicities. It’s about how we communicate and collaborate within GROW and with our clients and partners. Being culturally competent means being intentional about inclusiveness in hiring, training, and outreach, particularly for indigenous, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

By addressing cultural gaps and enhancing representation, we create a responsive and effective organization. Implementing these practices boosts creativity, improves decision-making, and fosters an engaged workplace.

Together, we aim to build a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse GROW that benefits everyone

The Role of Inclusive Language

Inclusive language is key to fostering a supportive environment. By choosing respectful and acknowledging words, we enhance personal value, acceptance, and belonging. This boosts morale, engagement, and productivity, breaking down stereotypes and biases.
